I recently watched Paris Je T'aime again. It's so lovely. Over the weekend I'll be watching this silly movie. I am a sucker for romantic comedies. I think my absolute favorite is Before Sunrise and of course it's sequel Before Sunset. What's your favorite romantic movie?

I loved Paris Je T'aime even without knowing its poster had such a hot design. ;-)

What a FUN topic! I also LOVE "Before Sunrise/Sunset." I actually just watched "Shopgirl" again and really, really love it.

i loved this movie, i wish they'd make the same type for New York!

Stealing Beauty is my all time fav. So may different types of love represented and it's visually stunning!

I love Shopgirl + Harry Met Sally!
Sara, I'll have to rent Stealing Beauty- I've never seen it!

Are you kidding me? Do we have the same brain? I have been watching this on my trainer this week and literally posted about it during my morning coffee today. Seriously - this is getting weird... :)

Room with a View would be my pick, hands down. Love, Actually was also a good one. As far as old guilty pleasures: Untamed Heart. Classic 90's melodrama. Pretty sure I'd find it just a titch over the top now, but loved it back in the day. ;-)
I missed Paris Je T'aime. Looking forward to seeing it.

ohh, I second 'stealing beauty'-such a delectable movie!

i was just thinking about this movie the other day! it's very interesting... and made me miss paris terribly! i don't really love romantic movies the way i used to... but at one point i was REALLY obsessed with 'playing by heart'. maybe because it had jon stewart in it and i adore him? dunno. but i liked it :) great cast.

I share your love for Paris Je t'aime, and it could be a great idea, like Jamie said, to do the same with New York, and maybe a lot of other cities.
Even if some of my friends thank that the short with the couple of mimes was corny, that was my favourite. What was yours?
Posted by: Marie-Eve | February 05, 2009 at 05:35 PM
Oh yes Rhea, Room with a View is the best I think.
Marie-Eve- I think my favorite was the Juliette Binoche one and then the tourist lady.

I love this movie and I've added it to my queue to see again - Thanks! I know it's horribly cheesy but Love Actually is cute and I adore Pride and Prejudice... although, those are just movies that I think are romantic, my husband strongly dislikes them... so if you can't enjoy it with you significant other - then is it romantic??? (This is a long comment)

It's so nice to hear someone else obsessed with Before Sunrise/Sunset. My husband always makes fun of me for watching them (especially Before Sunset) over and over and over again. I haven't seen "Paris J T'aime" yet, but it's on my Netflix. I'll have to move it to the top!

amelie!

I went to a press screening of He's Just Not that Into You tonight. It's absolutely awful. The worst movie I've seen in years! I was all geared up to enjoy some mindless fluff but couldn't even bring myself to blog about how bad it is!
My fave romantic movie is Unbearable Lightness of Being. I also love Chocolat and Love Actually and the good Jane Austen productions :) Oooh, and Rebecca!
Posted by: Jane Flanagan | February 05, 2009 at 09:40 PM
Oh no, Jane! I knew it would be mindless but i was hoping it was watchable:(
Summer- Glad you are obsessed... me too!
Roberta Jane- I don't know...Good point!

I love Amelie and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. xx

love before sunrise/before sunset and paris je t'aime! they're some of my absolute favorites. p.s. they filmed a new york version in 2008 (called "new york, i love you"). it should be out soon:

oh, also, have you heard of "500 Days of Summer"? It's a retro romantic comedy starring Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gorden Levitt. I'm really excited to see it when it comes out. I blogged the trailer a couple of days ago:

I know someone said they hated He's Just Not That Into You, but I just got back from seeing it and I enjoyed it! It's not a perfect movie, but I do like the ending. : )

i've always wanted to watch Paris Je t'aime, now that you've recommended it, it's definitely the next dvd to watch on my list! =)
i like notting hills, amelie and roman holiday (even though the ending wasn't like the rest).

Sorry for not being original, but Before Sunrise must be my favourite movie as well. I might have watched it 15 times already, every time with a smile on my face. If you like Julie Delpy, see the romantic comedy she directed! It's lots of fun and has similarities to Linklater's style. It's called 2 days in Paris.

Oh, this is one of my favourite movies, right next to Amélie and Once! I cannot wait for the New York, I Love You film release! It should have been out by now but they delayed it until April... I hope that will be concrete!
They are hoping to release a whole series of these with the City of Love concept. Wikipedia says the director wants to continue with Shanghai, Jerusalem, Istanbul, and South America!
