Ami, at Elizabeth Anne Designs, asked me to come up with a spring wedding table. I'd been wanting to design something a bit more sophisticated, which is more in tune with her style, so this was a fun project. Thanks, Ami!

When I was in Seattle a few weeks ago I had the chance to visit Field House (recommended to me by the lovely Jen McCabe), a super fun general store in the Ballard neighborhood. It's stocked with utilitarian-inspired clothing, food, dry goods, tools, and the shop periodically hosts classes on everything from gardening to raising chickens. 

I love how the general store concept is becoming popular again. If I were to open a shop in Portland (which I have no interest in doing) I would open a general store.  

The owners also run two shops around the corner from Field House, Blackbird Clothing + Blackbird Candy Shoppe.

I love the simple, easy  clothes from SM2 (FYI: music on the site), an adorable Japanese clothing brand. My sister Erika who has spent some time in Japan would love these and I think as a mom of four, these clothes would be very practical for her. Not to mention, they'd look really cute.

spring dinner party

A few months ago, my sister Liz asked if I would host a dinner party. As part of her birthday celebration, she wanted to cook a family style dinner for twelve friends. Saturday night she brought over a delicious menu, with the big hit being a Roasted Grape, Fennel and Carrot salad. Friends, Ansley and Jenny, contributed with chocolate cake and rhubarb infused drinks. See Lizzy's blog for more food details.

It was a lovely night with good friends and good food. Happy Birthday, Lizzy!

have a lovely weekend!

I spent this afternoon shopping for a dinner party for tomorrow night and ended up gong a bit mad buying flowers! It's hard for me to have self-control at flower shops. What are you all up to this weekend? I hope it's a lovely one!

table top: kitschy veggies

 
     

I am super inspired by food packaging, old patterned tea towels, and gardening so I thought it would be fun to bring the three together for a kitschy table top. I think this would be so much fun for a backyard summer party or low-key wedding. Full article at Project Wedding.

stripes + anemones

  
I simply adore this bride's outfit for her courthouse wedding. I've been totally obsessed with pairing stripes and anemone flowers so I was thrilled when I saw Joanna's post. The entire ensemble is sheer brilliance.

clever lettering

I love the naive style of lettering at this sweet wedding. The invitations were by Hello Lucky and inspired by the packaging of Jamie Oliver's food line. On a similar note, I just adore this idea for mix and match handwriting on place cards.

diy: wild lilac bouquet

  
For this project, I imagined a wild, textured, musky bouquet that you could sink your nose into. I used five varieties of lilac. My favorite (top left) is Korean Lilac (a similar variety is called "Tinkerbelle"). I recommend asking your florist or market for it. The flowers are tiny and the fragrance is super sweet.
