This past week, I spent an afternoon with my friend Jaime and her adorable daughter Ava putting together whoopie pies for a web article. I love to work on children's stories, by the way. Little Ava helped assemble the cookies so I can vouch that this is definitely a kid-friendly project! Isn't she a doll?
The easiest (and yummiest) recipe is a combination of two Martha recipes: This one for the cookies and this one for the frosting. The little bags are just painted with stencils and make great favors or classmate treats. If you are going to have sugary treats for Halloween, they might as well be homemade, right? You can see the whole article over on Eharmony's kid site.
Styling, photography and story by Chelsea Fuss for Eharmony. Special thanks to Jaime + her daughter Ava for modeling and helping. Baking by Dorothyanne Fuss.

Whoopie pies are definitely on my baking to-do list. A pastry chef friend of mine said they were "scoffed at" by "real" pastry chefs...but how can anyone scoff at a whoopie pie??

Ahhh! Whoopie pies.
I am from Lancaster, and whoopie pies are an integral part of my childhood memories.
I make them so often for my own kids, that they've come to expect them. ;)

I've been thinking about making pumpkin whoopie pies again. Just finished making monster cookies this morning though. So we probably need to eat some of them first. :)

I just love everything about this. I've been using brown paper bags for a ton of stuff lately. They're so cheap and you can do so much with them ;)

I just got turned on to your blog by ACupofJo and love it! (esp. the vintage pictures on your Flickr..SO INSPIRING!)
I was just curious, what kind of camera do you use for most of your blog posts?
Posted by: Stephanie | October 12, 2010 at 08:11 AM
Hi Stephanie,
I use a simple Nikon D40 usually with the very simple lens that came with the camera. My lens just broke though so the last couple DIY stories Ive posted were shot with the 1.4 55 mm lens.I also use Polaroid and disposable cameras but usually note that on the post.
Hope that helps!
